We recently visited Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point during Halloween on the High Seas aboard the Disney Magic. If you’re planning a Disney Cruise, here’s a rundown of what we loved, what you might want to plan for, and a few tips to make the most of your time at Disney Cruise Line’s newest destination.
The Walk from Ship to Island: What to Expect
One thing to know about this port is the walk from the ship to the island is a bit longer than you may be used to—around 15 minutes. During our trip, our head waiter explained that the long dock was designed to protect the coral reef while allowing the ship to dock directly, avoiding the need for tendering. This setup makes it possible for Disney Cruise Line ships to stop here without hassle. Along the way, there’s a water station halfway, and for those who need it, transportation is available with pre-sign-up required before disembarking. For your return, you can hop on transportation after waiting about 10 minutes, depending on the line. We found the walk to be manageable. Two in our group waited for the transportation back to the ship and we all arrived back to the ship at the same time, so it really is a matter of whether you can manage the walk because it is not necessarily faster.
Dining Options
There are plenty of dining choices, and True True BBQ is a highlight. It’s not just traditional BBQ—there are many options to choose from! Be aware, though, that they close before the end of the day, so plan your lunch accordingly unless you are planning on eating back on the ship. The Disney Cruise Line Navigator app is invaluable for planning meals and keeping track of activities, so you don’t have to cut your day short unexpectedly. Of course, there’s always the option to grab food back on the ship too!
Serenity Bay: Adult-Only Relaxation
For adults looking for a quieter spot, Serenity Bay is the place to be. This secluded, adults-only area offers beachside cabanas, a nearby bar, and a dedicated dining area just steps from the shore. It’s a fantastic escape from the hustle and bustle, perfect for enjoying some peace or a drink while taking in the beauty of Lighthouse Point.
Family Fun: Kids’ Activities and Character Meet-and-Greets
Families with kids have plenty of options to keep everyone entertained. From playgrounds to character meet-and-greets, the island full of Disney magic. The Disney Cruise Line photo package covers pictures taken on the island, so don’t miss out on capturing moments with Mickey, Minnie, and friends in their island attire! Check the app to stay up-to-date on character appearances, parades, and even spontaneous dance parties. Kids can also explore the Goombay Cultural Center to learn about Bahamian traditions and culture, along with various games and sports activities scattered across the island.
Booking Excursions
If you’re interested in excursions, plan ahead! Excursions at Lookout Cay include options like banana boat rides, bicycle rentals, kayaking, snorkeling, and more. Book these activities through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app well before your trip to ensure availability.
Relaxing on the Beach
Finally, sometimes the best plan is no plan at all. You’re welcome to simply enjoy the beach, build a sandcastle, and soak up the sun. Forgot to bring beach toys? No problem—there are toys available for purchase so the fun can continue seamlessly.
